  • 1.1 What are the traditional Valentine’s Day flowers I can give to my love?

Unless you’ve lived under a rock your whole life, you’ll know that long-stemmed roses are the primary flower to give on Valentine’s Day. While they are the ultimate VD flower, they tend to be jacked up in price for the week before Valentine’s Day. However, there are alternatives and other flowers which symbolize love which may not have a price increase. These include:

    • The Common: Tulips, Lilies, Carnations: These 3 flowers are some of the most popular and traditional flowers, and there is no reason why you couldn’t order them for a loved one on Feb 14th either.
    • Orchids: While orchids are generally an expensive flower regardless of Valentine’s Day, they are large and elegant and hold an impressive virtue even as a single stem. Consider a single delicate orchid for your lover.
    • Gardenia: For the crush or secret lover. You can give it to the recipient as a friend or place it where they’ll eventually find it – If you don’t think they’ll get the message, write a note saying what the flower is and it’s their job to find out the definition.
    • Lilacs: The lilac or ‘Syringa‘ is a grow in a spiral with miniature flower heads surrounding the stigma. They are a popular flower for expressing love and pride in your partner as well as all round beauty.

1.2 What kind of Valentine’s Day chocolates are available?

valentines day chocolate heart Valentines Day FlowersFlorists, chocolate delicatessens and even supermarkets release custom designed Valentine’s chocolates to stimulate your partner’s desires and melt their hearts. Chocolate hearts, chocolate cupids, practically anything romantic is chocafied for February 14th.

Make sure if you’re ordering flowers online that you browse through the extras once you’ve made your order to add some quality chocolates to the delivery.

    1.3 Isn’t Valentine’s Day just a commercial holiday?

While it has some loose relevant history in romantic love, Valentine’s Day has been accused of being a commercial holiday designed to sell cards, flowers, gifts and chocolates. However, you’ll have little luck trying to justify a lack of presents on Valentine’s Day, especially if they have or are planning to buy you something!

Unless you already frequently show your affection to your partner with random ‘Just Because’ gifts, Valentine’s Day is the perfect occasion to show your unbridled love at least once during the year.

1.4 What are some low-cost gift ideas for Valentine’s Day?

We all want to show our gratitude and admiration for our lovers and crushes, but we can’t all necessary afford to at the best of times. Consider a few of the following ideas as touching yet cheap (or even free) gifts for this Valentine’s Day.

    • Four-leaf clovers: Some find them with ease, others go their whole lives never finding one. Regardless, four-leaf clovers represent rarity, admiration and of course the dedication and thought of you spending the time to pick one. The hardest part will be finding a meadow where clovers grow. Cost: Free!
    • Breakfast in bed: Cook their favourite breakfast or lunch and deliver it fresh to their bed. Throw in a foot massage for extra points. If you’re no cook, you can simply go and get some professionally made breakfast take-away! Cost: ~$10

1.5 What is the history behind of the day of Valentine?

There were countless Roman priests and figureheads with the name Valentine. A couple of them ‘Valentine of Terni‘ and a ‘Saint Valentine’ who travelled to Africa as a martyr. Neither of them mention any link or relation to romance or love.

The closest mention would be a priest by the name of Valentine who fought with the Roman Emperor over religion, and was eventually sentenced to execution as he was found guilty of performing marriage ceremonies for homosexuals. His last actions were apparently writing a note to his lover which stated ‘From your Valentine’.
